2023 Rules Changes

Please see the attached file for significant changes to the LL Rulebook. Some high-level changes are:

  • Arm bands must be worn as designed (i.e., on the arm and not on the belt)
  • Girls (or boys) are allowed to wear "hard items to control their hair, such as beads..."
  • Managers/Coaches can now warm up players
  • New run rules 15, 10 & now 8 after 5 (or 8 after 6 for Intermediate and above)
  • Any manager or coach selected to a tournament team must complete the LL Diamond Leader Training program
  • Courtesy runner allowed for only the pitcher/catcher of record in tournaments
  • Continuous batting order is now mandatory for all tournament games up to Junior League level. One cavat; all tournament teams will have a minimum required number of players (I believe it is 12, but will know for sure after the zoom meetings).
These updates will be discussed during the Rules and Regulations seminar scheduled with the Southeast Region HQ over a 5-week period beginning on January 5th via Zoom. I highly recommend that your board members (at a minimum) and any coaches try to attend these sessions. Each one is about 1.5 hours beginning at 6:30 Central Time. Here's the link to sign up:

Registration is required but the event is free. You only need to register once and you will be good to go for all sessions. Attendance would be required for all 5 sessions to earn a completion certificate. This would be a good way for a league to track if a manager or coach attended this training (hint-hint).

We will also briefly cover these changes during our D1 spring clinics. We currently have one set up with Paxton on Jan 28th and one with Freeport on Feb 4th.

Please forward to anyone you think would benefit from the document or the training link. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to give me a call or shoot me a text. (404) 717-0688
Thanks,
Bill V.
